Biography:
3 years ago, I would have never guessed that I would be a part of Amtgard, let alone as deeply involved as I have become over the years. I found out about Amtgard through my younger brother, who everyone knows as Asmodeus.
At first my main response to Amtgard was "Ha, A Bunch of morons swinging foam, and doing it rain or shine, No way" And well, I still laugh, a different kind of laugh but none-the-less a laugh, at us for being out there through the miscellaneous weather conditions.
When my family and I moved during Asmodeus' first few months in Amtgard, we needed immediate help moving, and much to my suprise, Amtgardians showed up to help. My family couldn't begin to thank them enough, and all they requested in return was that my mother, now known as Emaleth, and I show up to the field the following Sunday and that is how it all started.....
When I arrived at the field I found myself playing with the kids and helping to keep them entertained. I gathered crayons and coloring pages, matchbox cars and the like. Relisys was one of the first people I started to really get to know, as she was the kid-o-crat. My first event was Feast of Fools, in which Relisys was the kid-o-crat there as well. I offered to be her assistant and we spent hours planning things for the kids. It opened my eyes to an entirely different aspect of Amtgard....Service.
In later years, I started to be involved in the overall planning of other events. I'd go to the weekly FoF meetings, offer my services to Lady Angela, the Regent at the time, During the entire planning of the event, I met lots of great people and formed friendships. I started feeling like I was gaining an additions to my family. Since then I have been able to help with other events, decorate, plan, clean and learn to fight.
Throughout the following years, I continued to ditch here and there, every once in awhile I would go into class battles as a warrior. I also continued doing service. Bringing water or hot chocolate to the field and still offering my services to the kids.
During the summer of 2006 I joined the company I am in now, Kabal. During that time I started water bearing almost every weekend.
In December of 2006 I was in a car accident that took me from the fighting aspect of Amtgard. It was hard to deal with at first, not being able to go out onto that field. It was hard to accept till I began putting all of my time into service.
That is when I found a deeper purpose in Amtgard. I was a part of the Feast of Fools '07 planning committee. I was the "Ornate-o-Crat" which meant I was in charge of the decorations of the event. I also was given "Head Of Waterbearers" duty. The event came and it was the best event I had ever been to!
In the past few years of Amtgard, I have learned a lot; Not only about the game, but about friendships, life, and even myself. Amtgard has been one of the best things for me and though, I still laugh at us for being out in the different weather conditions, I feel completely at home when it comes to Amtgard.
In the future, I will continue to serve as best I can even though I am unable to fight. For one other thing I have learned; Amtgard is not just for fighters; it takes all kinds of people to make it the great game it is today!
